William “Bill” Bell was appointed to serve as Director of the Department of Administration (ADOA) in October 2005. Previously, Bill Bell served as the as Deputy Director of ADOA and had been in that role July of 1997 - 2003. He began his career at ADOA as the Director of Personnel Services in 1991.
Prior to his return to the Department of Administration Bill served as the Executive Director of the School Facilities Board from July of 2003 through September of 2005. Governor Napolitano also called upon Bill to serve as the Interim Director for the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) in March of 2003, while a nation wide search was conducted for a permanent director.
Prior to state service, Bill retired from the Arizona Public Service Company (A.P.S.) as Director of Employee Services.
Bill is a native Arizonan He was raised in Phoenix and attended St. Mary’s High School. He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Arizona State University. He and his wife Pat have three sons and 4 grandchildren. He plays golf and the trumpet, and enjoys hiking.
