STATE TREASURER DEAN MARTIN ANNOUNCES STAFF

     

(STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX ) – State Treasurer Dean Martin is pleased to announce the hiring of new staff, including the return of former Treasurer’s Office employees and internal promotions. 

“It is a pleasure to bring on board a number of seasoned and well-respected professionals who bring together years of experience from the world of finance, investments and accounting,” Treasurer Martin said. “I am especially delighted to bring back to the office experienced technical personnel from previous successful Treasurers’ administrations.”

“We are actively implementing a thorough review of all policies and procedures from the previous administration. Our focus is on customer service, efficiency, and the safety, liquidity, and yield of the taxpayers’ money and endowments.” 

Arizona State Treasurer’s Office Staff Update

Klint Tegland, Deputy Treasurer of Operations

Klint previously served as the Assistant Deputy Treasurer for Operations since 2001. Prior to his service with Treasurer’s Office, Klint was employed at the Arizona State Senate as their Controller from 1992 to 2001.  He has held various positions in state government since 1977.  Education:  B.A., Arizona State University.

Mark Swenson, Deputy Treasurer of Strategic Planning and Research

Mark previously served the Arizona State Senate for more than 12 years on Majority Staff as a Senior Policy Advisor.  From 2002 through 2006, Mark was the senior policy advisor for budget and tax policy.  Previously, he had advised the caucus on education, natural resources, and economic development policy, media relations and also served as Policy Director.  Prior to his service in the Senate, Mark was a reporter for the Tucson Citizen. Education:  B.A., University of Arizona.

Tim White, Chief Investment Officer

Tim has served five state treasurers in numerous roles for over 15 years at the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office.  As the former Senior Portfolio Manager and Trader, Tim managed diverse portfolios that include equities and fixed-income securities.  His fixed income investment experience includes a wide spectrum from money markets to mortgage-backed securities.  He analyzed corporate credit structures as the Fixed-Income Investment Portfolio Analyst.  Education:  B.S.B.A. in Finance, Northern Arizona University; Certification from the Institute for Public Finance, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. 

Kimberly Yee, Director of Communications and Government Affairs

Kimberly formerly served as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Deputy Cabinet Secretary and as former Governor Pete Wilson’s Program and Policy Analyst in the State of California. She was a California Executive Fellow and served the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In Arizona, she worked with members of the Arizona State Legislature as a senior research analyst on a standing committee from 1998-2003.  Education: M.P.A., Arizona State University; B.A. in English and B.A. in Political Science, Pepperdine University. 

Chris Petkiewicz, Portfolio Manager

Chris formerly served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Health Services from 2003-2006 and as the Investment Accounting Manager in the Office of the State Treasurer from 1993-2002. From 1988 to 1993, he served in various accounting and supervisory roles in state government.  Education: B.A. in General Studies, Accounting, Western International University; B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Arizona State University; State of Arizona Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 (1998).

Dale Stomberg, Investment Accounting Manager

Dale previously served in the Office of the State Treasurer from 1989 to 2003 in the investment accounting department.  He previously worked in the General Accounting Office for the State of Arizona working on the Arizona Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and was part of a team performing internal audits of State Agencies.  Education:  B.S. in Accounting, Arizona State University.

Christine Halvorson, Customer and Investor Relations

Christine most recently served as Treasurer Martin’s Assistant when he served as State Senator and Finance Chairman.  Christine has over 10 years of Human Resources experience in Fortune 500 companies.  She was also an Employee Relations Officer with the University of Pennsylvania, and served as the Government Relations Director for a local real estate association. Education: B.A. in French and Spanish, Glassboro State University, now Rowan University.   

Connie Dow, Executive Assistant

Connie was an administrative assistant with the Arizona State Legislature for 10 years, serving members of both the Arizona State Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives.  Connie also previously worked in law enforcement for 13 years.
